Submission Guidelines

Fakejournal is looking for fiction of 1,000 words or less.

Submissions are accepted year-round. If accepted, your work will appear on the front page and remain there until the next issue. Ten stories make up an issue. Once ten stories are accepted, the issue is archived and the process of forging a new issue begins. Issues will appear on the blog as well as in downloadable .pdf format.

Please include a brief biography including your name and any other information you'd like to include such as your website, personal accolades, etc. Submissions may be placed in the body of an email or as a .doc attachment. Email submissions to fakeaddress@fakemail.com

Thank you and good luck.

Need specifics? Keep reading.

Length?

1,000 words or less. Submissions may be as long or short as you'd like, granted you stay within 1,000 words and tell a story in the process. Keep in mind that longer (if you can consider 1,000 words to be “long”) doesn't necessarily mean “better.” Have fun with it.

Genre?

I'm pretty open to anything, although character-driven fiction is preferred. I'm open to stories with science-fiction elements as well. I'm a bit wary of experimental fiction, but if it fits within the formatting guidelines it will be read and considered.

No sultry non-fiction accounts of Facebook/Craigslist hookups, please. Oh, and no vampires.

No poetry, sorry.

Do I retain the rights to my story?

Of course. Your story will appear on front page and possibly an issue if selected. I am not selling issues or making any profits from this journal. There's no red tape and your story is safe.

Are simultaneous submissions alright?

Absolutely. If your story gets accepted elsewhere and there's a conflict, simply contact me at fake@fakemail.com and I'll act accordingly.

How many stories can I submit at a time?

One submission at a time, please. However, if you receive a rejection and wish to submit again you are more than welcome to do so. In fact, I encourage it.

How long until I hear back from you?

As soon as possible, although I'm sure you hear that a lot. I'm not sure what to expect as far as submissions go, however, I'll do my best to get back to the author within three days.
